A chance encounter--Draco Malfoy

wondering if he could trust her. knowing he could not, should not, trust her. Yet she had trusted him. Told him. For a moment longer he hesitated to speak. Hesitated to answer. Replying instead. "How is your sister Kay?" he asked genuinely concerned for the girl. Knowing he wasn't in the highest standing with the dark lord, but knowing that he could possibly ask one of the others in school to keep her out of trouble if Kay wanted it that was.

Finally knowing he could not hold the truth from her he said in a soft voice barely above a whisper. "I have a mission, it brought me here," he didn't elaborate. He could do that. He couldn't tell an auror the truth about things. Not yet anyways.

Kayleigh watched Draco's eyes, her eyes peering into his as if she were staring into the deepest part of his soul, yet they held a gentle gaze. She was just a little surprised when he asked how her sister was, unsure of whether he cared or if he was just avoiding her question. "It hasn't exactly been an easy time for her, but she's getting by. She is mostly just trying to stay under the radar, though I think she is kind of getting sick of it. I'm afraid she won't be able to hold up herself back too much longer. I'm kind of worried that next time a Slytherin talks crap to her she might go off on them and get herself into trouble." she said with a sigh. Kids could be cruel. They were when she was in school, but somehow it seemed like they had only gotten worse, at least the Slytherins had, since she had graduated. Now her sister didn't even have her to protect her. That thought pained her, but what could she do?

Draco continued to surprise her when he actually answered the question she had thought he was avoiding. He didn't go into any details, but she didn't expect that he would, and she didn't intend to push it. "I figured as much." she replied with a gentle voice before taking about drink. "But don't worry, I won't ask you to divulge your secrets." she added with a hint of a smile, her voice carrying a joking tone as she tried to lighten the mood a little bit. "I just hope you don't get yourself into any trouble." she added, her voice now holding a serious tone. Oddly enough, she found herself hoping he didn't end up getting himself hurt, or worse.
